Solid bases comprising MgO covered with Al2O3were prepared by decomposition of Al(OCH(CH3)2)3over Mg(OH)2in ethyl acetate. Catalysts containing more than 10 mol% Al were insoluble in acetone. Aluminum occupied mainly octahedral sites in the low content range; tetrahedral structure being the principal one in the high range.
