Summary The class of univariate elliptic distributions provides insight into the ideas on statistical manifolds of Amari (1985) and Lauritzen (1984). Conditions for conjugate symmetry and flatness are derived and examples of geometrical estimation studied generally and in the context of the normal, Cauchy and Student's t-distributions.
