The Beijing Electron-Positron Collider (BEPC) completed in 1988 has brought China into the field of international particle physics research, taking the leading position in the t-charm physics. Facing to the international keen competition in this research field, Chinese physicists proposed the project of major upgrade for the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider, i.e. BEPCII. Started in early 2004, the BEPCII project was successfully completed in 2008 with excellent quality, and checked and accepted by the state in July 2009. Since then, the collider has operated for high energy physics experiments as well as for synchrotron radiation application, keeping a leading position in the t-charm physics. Briefly reviewing BEPC, this paper emphasizes the scientific goal of BEPCII, its accelerators, the BESIII detector and physics results as well as research plans and prospects.
