A hitherto unknown group of documents and manuscripts in Ottoman Turkish, Arabic and Persian emanating from within the Alevi-Bektashi milieu itself have come to light in recent years. Despite their fragmented nature and the frequently degenerated state of their extant copies, a systematic investigation of them provides us with valuable new data concerning different aspects of Alevi-Bektashi history and the broader religio-political vista of the late medieval and early modern Anatolia and neighbouring regions. This article is intended as a general overview of this new body of documents and manuscripts to facilitate an awareness of them and the different themes emerging from them among scholars working on related subjects.
