The physical properties of copper disulfide are correlated with those of the disulfides of the transition elements manganese through nickel, all of which have the pyrite structure, by the consideration of the effect of the anion crystal field upon the d‐electron energy levels. Copper disulfide shows a weak paramagnetism which appears to follow a Curie—Weiss law below 100°K with a small localized moment, μeff2=0.34 μB2, and a paramagnetic Curie temperature equal to −25°. It is a metallic conductor with a specific resistivity of 2×10−3 Ω·cm at room temperature. The superconducting transition temperature is 1.56°±0.04°K.
