A new yellow mutation, "viable yellow" (symbol AVY), which arose in the C3H/HeJ strain, has been described. Breeding data indicate that it is viable in the homozygote and is an allele in the agouti series. A peculiar mottling of the skin and hair, first noticeable at 4 days of age, occurs in some animals.
