American College of Cardiology (ACC)/American Heart Association (AHA) performance measures can serve as vehicles to accelerate appropriate translation of scientific evidence into clinical practice. Performance measures cover a subset of the most important recommended care practices and are considered appropriate for public reporting or use in pay for performance programs. Other measures of care that are not considered appropriate for public reporting or payment modification may be used as quality or test metrics for internal quality improvement.
