I read with considerable interest a recent article~] SHR, Vol. 24, pp. 59-63) by Martin and Haroldson. The matter they address is an important one, and certain aspects of their method and reported results deserve comment. There are both positive and negative comments to be made; I will address the negative ones first. There are several features of their method which deserve criticism. A major limitation, which I believe vitiates much of the analysis presented, is that the authors have used the" standard definition" article (Wingate, 1964) in a manner not intended and, moreover, have paraphrased a very limited section of that publication to serve their purposes.
