Synthesis of poly (2-methyl-2-benzyloxycarbonyltrimethylene carbonate-co-D, L-lactide)(poly (TMCC-co-LA)) 3: 1H NMR (CDCl3, 300 MHz): δ 1.20-1.30 ppm (bm, CH3 protons of the TMC segments), δ 1.35-1.55 ppm (bm, CH3 protons of the LA segments), δ 4.10-4.30 ppm (bm, CH2 protons of the TMC segments), δ 5.05-5.25 ppm (bm, CH protons of the LA segments), δ 7.35 ppm (bm, Ar). Mn= 15.8 kDa and PDI= 2.3. Molecular weight was characterized by a GPC (Viscotek VE2001 GPCmax) equipped with a triple detector array (Viscotek TDA302). Using tetrahydrofuran (THF) as mobile phase at a flow rate of 1 mL/min, molecular weight was calculated relative to polystyrene standards. Benzyl protected TMCC and LA contents are 13 mol.% and 87 mol.%, respectively (Table S1a). The molar ratio between TMCC and LA segments in the copolymer was adjusted by the feed ratio of the two monomers, and was calculated by comparing the integral of the signals at δ 1.20-1.30 ppm with those measured at δ 1.35-1.55 ppm, originating from the methyl groups in the TMCC and LA segments, respectively.
