Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is predicted to become the second most common cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States by 2020. Current treatment methods for PDAC remain limited in part because of the extensive genetic and cellular heterogeneity associated with this disease. The most effective treatment for PDAC remains surgical resection, but this option is only available to 20% of patients who present with resectable disease. Even after successful resection, PDAC recurs in 80% of patients. 1 Early detection methods are one focused area of investigation to improve therapeutic options for patients' condition diagnosed with PDAC.
