Abstract:The concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has risen every year since the Industrial Revolution. This has triggered many problems, such as climate change, which will have severe consequences for human beings if not controlled. Converting CO2 into chemicals that humans can utilize is an ffective way to reduce CO2. Using physical and chemical methods to fix or convert CO2 is economically expensive. In contrast, biological methods have made significant progress in CO2 conversion, characterized by low operating costs and high safety, providing a sustainable strategy for reducing CO2. There are currently problems with low carbon fixation efficiency and low product titer in biological carbon sequestration conversion, which will affect the industrialization of biological production if not addressed. This review introduces microorganisms for studying carbon dioxide fixation, summarizes the natural and synthetic carbon fixation pathways, analyzes their advantages and some existing problems, and finally looks forward to the future development trend of biological carbon sequestration. This view aims to deepen readers’ understanding of the current situation of biological fixed CO2 to produce chemicals, to provide some suggestions for designing more efficient carbon fixation pathways, and to promote the establishment of a new biological manufacturing industrial system using CO2 as raw materials.
