This article reviews the literature but excludes studies of people with central nervous system (CNS) tumors and CNS lymphomas as well as studies of CNS-directed therapies such as whole brain irradiation. Because of the importance of cancer treatment modality in interpreting the results of research on cognitive function in adults treated for cancer, studies that lacked treatment information were also excluded, as were studies that mentioned cognitive effects but did not assess cognitive function.
