Descriptions are given of a new recessive gene, flaky tail (ft), which affects the growth of the epidermis, and a new allele of varitint-waddler (VaJ). Flaky tail is linked to Va in linkage group XVI with 25.40 plus or minus 1.67% recombination. Two other genes are also linked to Va, matted (ma) with 28.71 plus or minus 1.55% recombination, and spastic (spa) with 27.34 plus or minus 2.28% recombination. Flaky tail is also closely linked to ma with 5.28 plus or minus 0.59% recombination, and ma and spa are closely linked with 5.09 plus or minus 1.65% recombination. These results and the results from 3-point crosses between ft, ma and spa, and VaJ, ft, and spa, indicate that the most probable linear order of the 4 loci is Va - 25 - ft - 5 - ma - 5 spa.
