Seven species of the D. melanogaster group were compared for differences in electrophoretic mobilities at 18 enzyme loci. Six species belonged to the D. melanogaster subgroup (D. melanogaster, D. simulans, D. mauritiana, D. yakuba, D. teissieri and D. erecta) and 1 sp. to the D. montium subgroup (D. burlai). The genetic similarities and the genetic distance between the species were calculated from the electrophoretic data, and a phylogenetic tree was constructed. The 7 spp. seem to be divided into 3 clusters: 1. D. melanogaster, D. simulans and D. mauritiana; 2. D. yakuba and D. teissieri and 3. D. erecta and D. burlai. The relationships between the species are discussed and compared to a study on the relationship between the species of the D. melanogaster subgroup, based on polytene chromosome banding sequences.
