Prohibit Analysis of thermal sensation assessments enables transition temperatures from any selected thermal sensation to the adjacent thermal sensation, e.g., from neutral to warm, to be identified. A transition temperature is defined as that temperature at which the maximum number of people would change their assessment from 1 thermal sensation to the next. If a 7-point scale of thermal sensation is used, 6 transition temperatures are possible. Increments between them will not necessarily be identical, as in a linear regression analysis. The method was applied in 3 studies: laboratory studies by the Kansas State University [USA], field studies in Port Moresby and field studies in Melbourne [Australia]. The 1st showed that men are more thermally tolerant than women, the 2nd showed that in Port Moresby the preferred temperatures of Melanesians are 2.degree. C higher than those of Caucasians and the 3rd suggested Melbourne subjects have a slightly lower preferred temperature.
