gases, Boltzmann showed in 1872 how to give a partial description (by using only part of the available information) which was still full enough to describe the time-evolution. Since then many other applications (electron transport in plasma, neutron transport in nuclear reactors, radiative transfer in stellar atmospheres) have been made. This book gives a full, and highly technical account, of the equation and the techniques used for its (partial) solution. It can be commended to those who need to apply the equation, and to those expert in functional analysis seeking new fields to conquer.
