Covidien) with a sliding Hem-o-Lok clip that is placed after the final suture is passed through the capsule for the reapproximation of the renal capsule. We are careful to maintain sufficient tension to re-approximate the renal tissue and place the final suture so as to preventing it from loosening; this is because excessive tension would cause damage to the renal tissue or vessels. We are uncertain as to the extent of strength required to satisfy this purpose for each suture. However, adequate strength for fixing the clip at a target point is essential to prevent bleeding or urine leakage. From this viewpoint, the present study provides valuable data regarding the appropriate combinations of sutures and locking systems.
