Micromagnetic calculation was carried out for investigating the relationship between nanostructure and magnetic properties of Nd–Fe–B-based nanocomposite magnets in consideration of imperfect nanostructures. The calculation predicted that nonmagnetic intergranular layers and inhomogeneous intergrain exchange interaction result in a deterioration of magnetic properties. Particularly, the deterioration is significant for a magnet with a grain size larger than the optimal one, and the simulated demagnetization curve, assuming an imperfect nanostructure, agreed roughly with that measured. Therefore, a further improvement in magnetic properties is expected by achieving a fine and homogeneous nanostructure.
