Children, 24 four yr olds and 24 five yr olds, were asked to make same-different judgments on pairs of forms that differed in angular orientation. Half of the children had been trained to rotate 1 form into congruence with the other to make judging easier, while the other half had not been given training. The children used and evoked kinetic imagery. Their performance was compared to that of a group of adults. Of the children, 26 also were given a test of number conservation. No evidence of association between kinetic imagery and conservation was shown, suggesting that the ability to use kinetic imagery did not depend on the attainment of concrete operations.
