The first piece of information leads me to focus my attention toward a disease affecting a particular age group, the elderly. A constellation of symptoms, rather than any one particular symptom, is offered, and they're fairly nebulous. Intermittent nausea, shivering sensations during the day, drenching night sweats, and weight loss imply subacute or chronic duration and make me think of things that haven't been going on just for hours. The combination of shivering sensations (which I interpret as chills) and drenching night sweats often is associated with an inflammatory process. Weight loss would certainly go along with that, and I wonder if he's having fevers.
