Four hydrocarbon-degrading strains were separated from heavy oil reservoir production water. HD-1, HD-2, and HD-4 strains were identified as Pseudomonas spp., and HD-3 strain was identified as Bacillus sp. The tolerance of these bacteria to high temperature and high salinity was also studied. These bacteria could grow well at temperatures of 40 °C to 65 °C, with mineralization of 9500 mg·L–1 to 11000 mg·L–1. The crude oil-degrading efficiency of the individual and mixed strains was studied. The mixture of four strains had better degradation than the individual strains, and the degrading efficiency was up to 62.2%. The crude heavy oil samples were detected by GC-FID and GC-MS before and after biodegradation. The bacterial strains showed strong biodegradability to normal alkanes and aromatics, and the average degrading efficiency was approximately 50% and 35%. However, the mixed strains had better degrading efficiency than the individual strains, especially for poorly biodegradable hydrocarbons, such as phenanthrenes and fluorines, of which the degrading efficiency was still greater than 50%.
