The presumed life habit is discussed for an inoceramid, Pseudomytiloides matsumotoi (H ayami) from the Lower Jurassic black shales of the Toyora area, West Japan. Most individuals were found isolated, together with ammonoids and plant remains, but some show an autochthonous occurrence, apparently attaching to the lower flank and venter of some horizontally embedded ammonites and wood trunks. This evidence as well as the mytiliform shell morphology with a long and flat antero-ventral margin strongly suggest a byssate pseudoplanktonic life in this bivalve.
