Total lactic dehydrogenase activity (LDH) of normal human serum has been separated by different electrophoretic techniques into 5 fractions. In this paper we shall consider the significance of that LDH fraction that, a t pH 8.4, migrates most slowly, and to this fraction we shall refer, according to conventional electrophoretic practice, as LDH5. Under Enzymoelectrophoresis, below, we describe the technique of electrophoresis and of enzyme detection (“enzymoelectrophoresis”) used in our studies. Under Review of Data C‘oncerning Human Serum LDHS.5 we review findings concerning LDH5 that already have been published, and, under New Experimental Investigations we report on new experiments done on rats and monkeys. I t is concluded that direct experimental proof has been given of the relation between the serum level of LDH5 and the necrotic turnover occurring in liver cells.
