The isopods Armadillidium vulgare, Latr., and Venezillo arizonicus, Mulaik and Mulaik, were found respectively in mesic and xeric habitats in southern Arizona. The response to light and humidity was studied in a choice-chamber apparatus and the response to temperature in a thermopreferendum apparatus. The reaction was analyzed by the following criteria: excess time spent in one alternative, the number of shifts, residence time and speed. V. arizonicus was the only isopod found to be negatively thermo-active even at 40[degree]C. It also preferred intermediate humidities, and did not respond to the saturation deficit of the air. The normal positive photoreaction of A. vulgare changed to a negative one at high temperatures, but was not affected by humidity.
