A square matrix A=(aij) is called m-banded if aij=0 for all |i-j|>m. Motivated by the results of Rainey and Habetler [J.W. Rainey, G.J. Habetler, Tridiagonalization of completely nonnegative matrices, Math. Comp. 26 (1972) 121–128], we provide m-banded factorizations of sign regular matrices that preserve their sign structures. As applications, some eigenvalue interlacing properties and majorization relations are obtained for certain sign regular matrices.
