The article presents a study on the causes for woody plant encroachment which is recognized as a worldwide rangeland management problem. The study specifically investigates the influence of overgrazing on bush ecroachment by Tarchonanthus camphoratus (Asteraceae; L.) in a semi-arid savanna and predicts that overgrazing by livestock assists in the net recruitment of T. camphoratus. The methods used, as well as a thorough results discussion, are presented. Charts and graphs are presented reflecting the conclusions of the study that overgrazing does in fact facilitate encroachment of T. camphoratus in a semi-arid savanna.
