Our PubMed search identified only a single reported case of simultaneous intussusception and volvulus.[9] Our patient's X-ray findings revealed a markedly dilated colon, and we suspected colon volvulus; however we could not confirm the existence of caecal volvulus and intussusception until CT was performed. Although the patient had extracted her ileus tube herself, we speculate that the ileus tube was not involved in this intussusception, because the balloon had already deflated and the intussusception did not occur in a retrograde manner. A 41-year-old Japanese woman with a history of schizophrenia and brain contusion, lumbar fracture, and pulmonary contusion due to a suicide attempt was admitted to our hospital because of abdominal pain and vomiting.[Extracted from the article]Copyright of ANZ Journal of Surgery is the property of Wiley-Blackwell and its content may not be copied or emailed to multiple sites or posted to a listserv without the copyright holder's express written permission.
