The Neo-Pentecostal Movement is growing rapidly in several parts of the world, after beginning some 16 years ago in the United States. It began in the New Zealand Cathclic Church in Auckland early in 1970 among a handful of people who had read The Cross and the Switchblade, (Wilkerson, 196?) and Catholic Pentecostals, (Ranaghan, 1969). Later in the same year, a second group of Roman Catholics initiated Pentecostalism in their Church in Christchurch as a result of their contact with an independent Pentecostal Church-the New Life Revival Centre. Growth since 1970 has
