SUMMARY Fibre-reinforced polymers (FRPs) are being increasingly used to strengthen metallic structures. The current best-practice for this technique is described in the recently published CIRIA report ‘ Strengthening Metallic Structures using Externally-Bonded FRP ’. The report covers all aspects of a strengthening scheme, including procurement, design, installation, and inspection. It is thus of interest to clients, consultants, contractors, and materials suppliers. This paper gives an overview of the report and summarises its findings. Aspects of particular importance to strengthening metallic structures using FRPs are highlighted and discussed.
