In the present paper 32 new species are described, which, with the addition of four previously recorded from other regions, brings the total of East African species to 46. One other species, M. longiceps Easton, known only from Abyssinia, has nevertheless been included in the key, for the sake of completion of that part dealing with the species-group to which it belongs.Authentic examples, including types or paratypes, of all previously described species have graciously been made available by various museums for examination by the author. Much new or unnamed material has been loaned for study by the British Museum (Natural History), the Commonwealth Institute of Entomology, the Hungarian National Museum and others, but the major source has been the author’s own collection amassed during a number of years through the energetic field-work of various friends, to whom due acknowledgment is made below. Although the major divisions adopted in the key to the Abyssinian species have for the most part proved their validity, some degree of rearrangement has been found necessary, largely on practical grounds, though at the same time contributing, it is hoped, to a better understanding of the true taxonomy of the species. An overall picture now gradually emerges of the comparatively well-defined species-groups of which the Ethiopian Meligdhea fauna is composed. One such division, the sjostedti
