METHODSThe radioactive sorbitol was prepared by the catalytic reduction with Haney nickel of C14-labeled glucose (3). The tagged glucose was uniformly labeled and prepared by the hydrolysis of starch obtained by photosynthesis (4). The rabbits were nephrectomized and eviscerated (5) and maintained at normal blood glucose concentration for the entire experiment by the constant intravenous injection of glucose. About I hour after the recovery from the anesthetic, the animals were given intravenously 25 to 30 mg. of radioactive sorbitol.
