this collection runs the risk of centering African American masculinity in ways that the editors may not have intended nor fully examined-the political implications of that centering. In sum, the contemporary discussion on race and masculinity continues to run the risk of denning "race" as blackness with all of its attendant problems. Yet, the analyses of masculinity and race are striving to avoid any easy reductionism. At the same time, these insightful analyses of black masculinity make a powerful argument for the importance of African American masculinity in any discussion of racialized masculinities. To return to Harper's claim one last time, it is clear that anxiety over masculinity in general, and racialized masculinities in particular, have tremendous implications for the entire social scene, yet those implications remain to be fully explored. African American masculinity is an important part of that discussion, but it is too early to foreclose any examination of other masculinities and their significance for U.S. cultural politics.
