Applicants to private, high-quality institutions of higher education (IHE’s) are subject to a series of decisions. Firstly, some applicants are admitted, while others are not. Who is admitted and who is denied admission? Secondly, applicants admitted, but in need of financial aid receive offers of varying amounts of the different types of aid available (grants, loans, and work offers). What types of aid are offered and in what amounts are these offers made? The answers to these questions describe the supply behavior of these IHE’s. The objective of this paper is to study this supply behavior in order to understand the admission and financial aid decision-making that results in the distribution of acceptances and the distribution of financial aid offered to accepted applicants.
