A B ST R A C T Transitingplanetlightcurveshavehistorically been used predom inantly form easuring thedepth and henceratio oftheplanet-starradii, p.Equationshavepreviously been presented by Seager& M allOrnelas(2003)fortheanalysisofthetotaland trough transitlightcurvetim esto derivetheratio ofsem i-m ajoraxisto stellarradius, a=R�, in thecaseofcircularorbits.Here,anew analyticm odelisproposedwhich operatesfor them oregeneralcaseofan eccentricorbit.W eaim to investigatethreem ajoreects ourm odelpredicts:i)the degeneracy in transitlightcurve solutionsforeccentricity, e > 0 ii)the asym m etry ofthe lightcurve and the resulting shiftin the m id-transit tim e, TM ID iii) the eect ofeccentricity on the ingress and egressslopes.It is also shown thata system with changing eccentricity and inclination m ay produce a long periodtransittim evariation(LTTV ).Furtherm ore,weuseourm odelinareanalysisof HD209458barchiveddatabyRichardson etal.(2006),whereweincludetheconrm ed non-zeroeccentricity and derivea 24�m planetary radiusof RP = 1:275RJ�0:082RJ (where RJ = 1Jovian radius),which is � 1% largerthan ifweassum eacircularorbit.
