Anatomical interest in the corpus callosum has recently been stimulated by the increasing knowledge of the functions of the corpus callosum. Since an adequate knowledge of function cannot be obtained without some knowledge of form, this paper seeks to trace the history of anatomical research into the corpus callosum. The questions of the cells of origin and distribution, either homotopical or heterotopical, of the corpus callosum are discussed, and an attempt is made to correlate anatomical interest with the prevailing concepts of function.
