Correspondence and Opinions genitive. Who knows that the genitive of derma is dermatos, the stem is dermat-, hence it must be demat-o-scopy not dermoscopy? Or the genitive of syphilis is syphilidis, the stem therefore is syphilidand it should read, strictly speaking, syphilid-o-logy, syphilid-o-graphy etc. Anyway, as outlined in the beginning, we conceive ourselves as specialists of a (nominally) double discipline, dermatovenereology. Historically, venereology (at the time called just ‘syphilis’) was first, the appointments of professors and the establishment of departments happened earlier than for skin diseases alone. When attempting to name the oldest periodicals this double nature or double character should be remembered and, as conclusion to these lines, both Cazenave’s Annales and Behrend’s Syphilidologie should be given No. 1 rank – aequo loco.
