SYNOPSIS. A culture medium for Euglena gracilis Z has been devised so that each compound is present in minimal concentration to support rapid growth resulting in high cell population. Trace metal contaminations of the glutamic acid substrate were determined by spark-source mass spectrometry. The incorporation of radio -Zn, -Mn, -Ca, and -Cl was followed and the cell composition in this medium was determined.
