Absorption and velocity of sound at 0.5 - 10 Mc were measured for solutions of hemoglobins of several species of mammals under various conditions of temperature, concentration, and chemical environment. Quantitative relationships between absorption and dispersion indicate that absorption is controlled by a relaxation process. A broad spectrum of relaxation frequencies must be assumed corresponding to activation energies extending well above and below 8 kcal/mole.
