The 1st ultrastructural evidences of actinotrichia in the coelacanth Latimeria chalamnal are presented. Its actinotrichia are described with scanning (SEM) and transmission (TEM) electron microscopy. Their structure is compared to teleost [Salmo gairdneri and Fundulus heteroclitus] actinotrichia. Both elements present similar fine structure, i.e., a periodic cross-striation of 60 65 nm: the plesiomorphic character of actinotrichia is discussed in Osteichthyes.
