Our knowledge of narrolepsy is of a relatively recent date, as this syndrorne was first described by Wesfpha l in 1877, and named narcolepsy by Gelineau ill 1880. It is primarily characterized by the appearance of siiddeii attacks of sleep or universal loss of tonus. The individual patients niay have either kind of attack or mewly one of them, or they may be siibject to one kind of attack for years before the other sets in. Most of the patients suffering froni nai*coleptic attacks are othwwise perfectly norural. Hence triany of them (lo not think they are suffering from any real disease and seek no medical advice before the attacks become excessively severe. It would seem, nioreover, that several physicians fail to keep the clinical picture of narcolepsy in mind, so that very likely a good many cases have never been diagnosed. Thus, two of the cases in the family to be mentioned here were ascertained only after these patients had died, and a third case had not been recognized before, in spite of repeated medical examination. Once the niircoleptic syndrome is recognized, however, i t presents various interesting problems, not least in cases of fatnilial occurrence. These cases being, further, fairly rare, we shall here describe a family, in which four sibs were suffering fraom narcolepsy. These cases are of additional interest because the narcolepsy was here combined with endocrine disturbances and cardiac pheiiomena. I'inally, two of the four sibs died pre-
