Elastic stiffness constants in magnetostrictive alloys of the rare-earth Fe 2 compound family are discussed on the basis of the Landau-type free energy function expressed in terms of magnetization and strain components. It was found that some of elastic stiffness constants become extremely small in the vicinity of tetragonal-rhombohedral phase transition points.
