The adsorption of fullerene malonic acid (C60 malonic acid) adlayer on a Au(111) was carried out by immersing it in a benzene solution containing C60 malonic acid molecules, and the adlayer was transferred into vacuum. The adlayer structure was determined to be (3.1 × 3.1)R5° by using scanning tunneling microscopy and low-energy electron diffraction. It is suggested that there is a strong interaction through hydrogen bonding between C60 malonic acid molecules.
