This paper reassesses the concept of the structure of production in light of recent works by Fillieule (2005, 2007) and Hulsmann (2008). In particular, we reconsider the relations between three structural variables: the interest rate, relative spending, and the length of the structure of production. Based on this reconsideration, we study basic growth mechanisms in a monetary economy that can be applied to various scenarios that seem to be relevant under the contemporary conditions of the world economy. We also discuss the role of human capital and of consumer credit within the structure of production.
