my freedom is limited, my capacity to consent destroyed-and any contracts I may sign, presumably, void or voidable at my option. The claim is intuitively implausible. It is as if the University's Chief Financial Officer should argue, during faculty salary negotiations, that an "undue" raise in the salary level would damage the faculty's ability to consent freely, and render the faculty contracts void or voidable. That may be the only argument to that effect that has not yet been advanced by his office; I think I shall not bring it to his attention. The reaction of the Faculty Salary Committee to any such argument can be imagined. For that matter, any "normal, healthy" person's reaction can be imagined, to that employerly solicitude for "freedom" that keeps wages conveniently low. No inducement is unduly high from the point of view of the person being induced.
