From April 1972 to May 1973, we studied Lemur catta in a gallery forest reserve in Berenty, Madagascar. We directed our observations toward two aspects of lemur behavior. One study dealt with feeding behavior and population dynamics. For this study we gathered data on feeding activities, made several censuses of the reserve, and analyzed the vegetation. Our information indicates that, although the size of the population did not change during the course of our study, the density of animals was different in various parts of the reserve. These differences seem to be correlated with differences in the distribution of resources.
