This article outlines some of the more popular types of coatings employed in overcoating bridges having existing lead-based paints. It highlights the pertermance of faur different coating types. The importance of coating adhesion, barrier properties, wetting, and penetration is surveyed as well as coating stresses in light of film thickness, chemistry, and weather-related phenomena.
