Research was performed on both phosphoric and tannic acids as chemicals for rust transformation. The interaction and phase transformation kinetics of the reaction between these products when mixed with different iron oxides and oxyhydroxides were studied. Infrared spectroscopy (IR) results of all formulations indicated that lepidocrocite (γ-FeOOH) was the most reactive to acids followed by goethite (α-FeOOH) and magnetite (Fe3O4). No lepidocrocite to magnetite transformation induced by tannic acid.
