An ultra-lightweight motor is required for the practical realization of electric aircraft. In this study, we propose a novel motor that can convert energy without magnetic cores using magnetic-resonance coupling (MRC). MRC involves the use of two detached coils connected to a resonant capacitor to transfer enormous amounts of energy through a large air gap between the coils. In this study, the novel MRC machine is evaluated using a theoretical model to verify the feasibility of the motor and to determine the basic frequency characteristics for different air-gap lengths. The magnetic field analysis and experimental results confirmed that the MRC machine can produce torque due to resonance without the use of a magnetic core and is affected by the air-gap length.
