Field studies in a region of endemic yellow fever, after a lapse of 9 years since mass vaccination with type 17 D vaccine, show a very high degree of immunity among those so vaccinated. It seems therefore that the protection is highly successful and that the validity of yellow fever certificates issued after such vaccination should be extended to 9 years, provided the original vaccination was given to individuals over 7 years of age. The lasting effects of vaccination among children under that age are not as yet definitely proved.
