Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is a major environmental stress factor for many organisms and is known to exert a wide range of hazardous effects (MeyerRochow, 2000; Schauen et al., 2007). This emission type comprises the portion of solar radiation that has wavelengths between 100 nm and 400 nm, encompassing between 7% and 9% of the total that reaches the surface of the Earth (Bornman et al., 2015). Three types of UV radiation can be distinguished based on their energy and biological activities which correspond to three wavelength ranges (Forges et al., 2018). The first, UVA (between 320 nm and 400 nm) easily penetrates the atmosphere and is a major component of radiation in sunlight (de Gruijl & Leun, 2000).
